Good question. RK's ended its run and no matter how much we beg, cajole, or threaten Watsuki-sensei, we will never see our dream of Enishi & Kaoru's legitimized couplehood come true. At best, we might hope for an Enishi and Kaoru type couple to appear in future Watsuki manga (We're keeping our fingers crossed; that way we can write about them as E&K incarnates). Some might also argue about the validity of bringing Enishi & Kaoru together, i.e. is it really possible given the characterization of E&K. We ourselves can object: why bring them together when we can keep them to ourselves?

But then again, why not? There have been far stranger and scarier matches made. And we all know how these sister-fixated types end up -- they don't get the girls. Which is really unfair, since they do deserve a little love and companionship. And we believe that Enishi isn't a bad guy. He was just blinded by the need to avenge the untimely death of his beloved sister.

Kenshin never did anything to prove his love for Kaoru was the romantic kind. For all we know, he may have loved her as a sister. And besides, we couldn't help but wonder why Enishi and Kaoru were so nice to each other. Why can't Enishi bring himself to kill Kaoru? Did Kaoru really remind him of his beloved oneesan? Why was Kaoru allowed to freely wander in his mansion? Why was she allowed to hold a knife when she was perfectly capable of maiming him? Why did Kaoru prepare and serve a meal for Enishi? And what's the deal with those matching his and her's bathrobes anyway...

  We rest our case.
